Worton Cottage Industry is a partnership committed to “Fair Trade”, and our products are manufactured using environmentally friendly materials.
The main woods used are Rubberwood and Albizia Falcataria. The Rubberwood is cut down when the tree can no longer produce sufficient rubber, and its replacement will have already been planted so that the production of rubber can continue. The Albizia Falcataria is one of the fastest growing trees in the world. After its useful life as a wind breaker on the hill plantations of Central Sri Lanka, it is harvested. Non-toxic paints are used on all our colourful wooden toys, many of which are hand painted. This means that all our toys tend to vary slightly.
Our original selection of dolls and animals are all handmade, many of them with the strikingly brightly coloured 100% cotton handloom.
As of June 2002, the production of our soft toys has been done ‘in house’ from our Sri Lankan base. All our raw materials are bought locally. We regularly visit all our external producers at their factories and work premises to ensure quality and conformity. No children are employed and all the workers are paid wages according to set norms.
We hope you enjoy our selection of products and should you require any more information regarding our products, please do not hesitate to contact us.
